Help Us Reclaim the Real Woman in America

Women: Are you tired of the media telling you what a woman is supposed to look like? Are you frustrated with magazines, websites, commercials and books that offer to help you but instead just try to sell you more junk? Are you insulted by the insinuation that all a woman could be interested in is more products to make her thinner, younger and more beautiful?

Men: Are you tired of the media dictating to you what a beautiful woman is supposed to be? Aren’t you smart enough to determine for yourself what true beauty is? Are you tired of the media telling you a woman must look a certain way to be valuable or that looks directly influence a woman’s value?

It’s time to reclaim what it means to be a woman in America.

All women are not created equal. We are not meant to fall into some cookie-cutter mold to define our beauty. Real women come in a variety of ages, shapes, sizes and colors- this is one thing that makes America so grand.

The very essence of a woman’s beauty is her individuality, her uniqueness and those defining characteristics which make her different from any other woman on the planet.

Let’s stop allowing the media to brainwash us into thinking that women have to look a certain way. Let’s stop raising our sons to believe there is only one definition of true beauty. Let’s stop raising daughters with eating disorders and body image disorders.

Let’s stop looking at Glamour and Vogue to tell us how to be a woman and instead let’s show them what a real woman is. True beauty is about being the best you that you can be, not trying to look like you stepped off the set of an MTV video.

Women need to realize we are not at war with one another.

The media wants to pit us against one another, bidding us to compete to be the prettiest, the sexiest or the thinnest. 85% of the products on the market today for women are designed to do just this. We have to encourage and support one another, compliment one another and lift each other up.

Even models face this torture.

Even women whose very professions rely on their looks must face the scrutiny of not being good enough. They are told to “lose a few pounds here” or “cover up a freckle there”. Modeling agencies try to push this so-called American Standard on their models instead of showcasing them for the true beauty that they have naturally.

The movies aren’t immune…

As actresses’ clothing get skimpier, their talent does, too. Compare movies of today to those of the 90’s. It doesn’t take a genius to recognize the difference. With only a few exceptions, the quality of acting is shrinking right along with their clothing.
